2011 Brangus Show of Merits Results Announced

Champions Named at 2011 Brangus National Show

Brangus exhibitors from six states brought 89 head of Brangus cattle to Shreveport, La., for the 2011 Brangus National Show of Merit on Saturday, November 5. Longtime Brahman breeder Billy Wayne Key, Sr. of Madisonville, Texas, judged the event. Key has multitudes of real world experience in the cattle industry and has raised not only Brahman cattle, but also Angus, Charolais, and commercial F1 crossbreds. Additionally, he has had numerous judging experiences with American cattle and is currently the oldest and longest serving member of the American Brahman Breeder’s Association’s Board of Directors. Throughout the day, Key evaluated 60 Brangus Females, two Brangus Cow/Calf Pairs, and 27 Brangus Bulls.

Grand Champion Female honor went to Doguet’s Diamond D Ranch of McCoy, Texas. DDD Ms Fancie 804W43 a November 5, 2009, daughter of Brinks Bright Side 607L11, first captured the title of Champion Senior Heifer. Coming from the Heifer Calf Division, DCC Ms Black Sally 915X91 took the Reserve Grand Champion Female title home for Dillard Land & Cattle, LLC of Katy, Texas. The September 23, 2010, female is a daughter of Blackhawk of Brinks 607M17. Miss -C- Extra Stylish 826X2 continued her winning tradition for JLS International of Robertsdale, Ala., by being named the Grand Champion Red Female. 826X2 is a September 3, 2010, daughter of R2 Extra Style 880P and was first named Champion Red Heifer Calf. The Champion Red Summer Heifer, Miss PB Princess of Powerman 596/10 was named the Reserve Grand Champion Red Female. Exhibited by Wellmann Cattle Company of Brenham, Texas, 596/10 is a May 2, 2010, daughter of CX Mr Powerman 226/T1.

SCC Sasha Fierce 222W and SCC Sasha’s CEO 222Y took Grand Champion honors in the Cow/Calf Pair Show. Sasha is a February 15, 2009, daughter of Doguets Hercules. Sasha’s CEO is an April 2, 2011, son of Skyhawks Presidente. The pair is owned and exhibited by Callie Scott of Angleton, Texas. CX Ms Home Run 67/W and her April 16, 2011, bull calf, CX Mr Red Chief 67/Y, returned to the backdrop as Champion Red Cow/Calf Pair. Cox Excalibur Brangus in Katy, Texas, owns and exhibited the January 5, 2009, daughter of CX Home Run 135/P.

After first winning the Champion Junior Bull title, Mr JLS Duke 291X was named the Grand Champion Bull. Exhibited by JLS International of Robertsdale, Ala., Duke is an April 2, 2010, son of Suhns Affirmed 331T2. Following closely behind, DDD Uppercuts Legacy 804X37, a September 11, 2010, son of Uppercut of Brinks 14J8, was named Reserve Grand Champion Bull after first winning the Senior Bull Calf Division. 804X37 is owned and exhibited by Doguet’s Diamond D Ranch of McCoy, Texas. Cox Excalibur Brangus of Katy, Texas, swept the red bull show with CX Home Run 314/X2 taking the Grand Champion Red Bull title and CX Mr Home Run 358/W taking the Reserve Grand Champion Red Bull title. 314/X2, born March 10, 2010, was first named Champion Red Junior Bull while 358/W, born February 8, 2009, was first named Champion Red Senior Bull. Both bulls are sons of CX Home Run 135/P.

In the Group Classes, Skyhawk of Brangus in Tyler, Texas, swept the black division while Cox Excalibur Brangus of Katy, Texas, swept the reds. Skyhawk Brangus exhibited the Champion Produce of Dam with sons of SB Ms Pathfinder 430H18, both the Champion Junior Get-of-Sire and Champion Senior Get-of-Sire with progeny of Skyhawks Presidente, and Champion Breeder’s Herd. Cox Excalibur Brangus exhibited progeny of Ms R38 Center Ranch 314/L22 to claim Champion Red Produce of Dam and progeny of CX Home Run 135/P to claim both Champion Red Junior and Champion Red Senior Get-of-Sire. Cox also took home Champion Red Breeder’s Herd.
