A WTO Panel Examining Two Complaints Against The United States’ Country-Of-Origin Labeling (COOL) Law has announced that it expects to meet its mid-year deadline for a ruling, Feedstuffs reports. Challenges filed by Canada and Mexico allege COOL constitutes a trade barrier in violation of WTO accords.

There Is Hope That Reopening Beef Trade With China Will Be On President Obama’s Agenda when he meets with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Washington D.C. next week. A U.S. trade negotiator has been in Beijing this week for beef talks, according to Reuters, but it is unclear if a deal can be reached before the Obama-Hu summit. USMEF has estimated that China could be a $200 million market if it resumed accepting U.S. beef.
